Cookies are small files stored on your device when you visit a website. We also use "local storage", which works in a similar way. This page explains what we use and why. For more on how we handle personal data, see our Privacy Policy.
Your choice comes first
When you first visit, we show a banner asking whether you're happy for us to use analytics cookies. Nothing non-essential loads until you choose "Accept". If you choose "Decline", no analytics cookies are set. We remember your choice so we don't keep asking.
What we use
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Stored for |
|---|---|---|---|
cookie-consent | The Butcher in the Wood | Essential — remembers whether you accepted or declined cookies (stored in your browser's local storage) | Until you clear it |
_ga | Google Analytics | Analytics — tells apart one visitor from another so we can count visits (only set after you accept) | 2 years |
_ga_<ID> | Google Analytics | Analytics — keeps track of your session (only set after you accept) | 2 years |
We do not use advertising or marketing cookies, and we don't track you across other websites.
How to manage cookies
- On this site — choose "Decline" on the banner, or clear your browser's site data to be asked again.
- In your browser — every major browser lets you block or delete cookies in its settings. See aboutcookies.org for step-by-step guides.
If you block analytics cookies, the site works exactly the same — we just won't be able to see anonymous usage statistics.
Changes to this policy
If the cookies we use change, we'll update this page and the date above.
